Retro Weather Terminal
A vintage ham-shack computer for Southwest Florida weather, tides, sun and moon. Tap a command or type one. It is inspired by linecast, a free terminal app you can run yourself.
A tribute, not the real thing. This screen is a W4YEA web version inspired by Official linecast source on GitHub (opens in a new tab), by Andrew Shuttleworth Fowler. It is not linecast, is not affiliated with it and is not endorsed by its author. Everything it shows is real: live government data, or positions calculated from an astronomical ephemeris. If a source is down it says so; it never fills in a guess.

Where every number comes from
Every command is labelled. Live data comes from the sources below and the screen says how old it is. Nothing is simulated, and if a source fails you see an error instead of made-up output.
| Command | What it shows | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
weather | Conditions + forecast · Live data | National Weather Service |
radar | Live NWS radar image · Live data | National Weather Service radar, Tampa Bay (KTBW) |
tides | Tide table + curve · Live data | NOAA CO-OPS predictions |
moon | Phase, rise, set · Calculated | Computed in your browser |
sunshine | Sunrise, sunset, daylight · Calculated | Computed in your browser |
sky | Sun and moon position · Calculated | Computed in your browser |
maps | Interactive map of the area · Real map data | OpenStreetMap vector data (bundled snapshot) |
status | Data and node status · Live data | Live probes of each data source; AllStarLink registry |

Weather and tides are for general interest only. For warnings and decisions about safety, use the Official weather.gov forecasts (opens in a new tab). Tides come from the Fort Myers station, not from your canal or beach. Sun, moon and planet positions and times are calculated for Cape Coral and agree with US Naval Observatory tables to about a minute. The radar is from the Tampa Bay site, about 110 miles away, so it can miss low or small showers. The map is a snapshot of OpenStreetMap data and is not for navigation.

Linecast is a free app that runs in your own terminal window and draws live weather, radar, tides, sun, moon, sky and maps for anywhere in the world. This page is a small web tribute to it.
Why this screen is safe
- There is no shell behind it. What you type is matched against a short fixed list and is never run, evaluated or sent anywhere.
- The only requests it makes are read-only
GETs to this site's own data feeds. They take no input from you and always report Cape Coral. The feeds are cached for a few minutes so they never overload the government servers they use. - Everything it prints is plain text. Nothing from a feed is ever treated as code or as a web address.
- No account, no tracking, no third-party scripts, and no map tiles fetched from anyone else. Your phosphor color choice stays in your browser.
